The crème de la crème of the European events industry will again convene in Ljubljana in September 2026 for the 11th edition of the festival. The competition for the best events, which has been taking place since 2012, will again transform Ljubljana into the centre of European creativity in event organising.
The festival is organised by Toleranca marketing and the Conventa trade show, in partnership with Ljubljana Tourism, the Slovenian Tourist Board, and the Slovenian Convention Bureau.
The CBEA competition will reward Europe’s best events for the 14th time
As tradition dictates, European event organisers kick off the autumn event season at the Conventa Crossover festival in Ljubljana. The jubilant 10th anniversary of the event will be all the more unique thanks to an unmatched venue – the Ljubljana Castle. From 8 to 9 September 2025, the event will convene over 150 attendees. Since the first edition, the festival’s philosophy has been captured by the event slogan “No More Boring Events”. The speakers, content, format, and moderators all follow this principle. The organisers believe this is why the festival annually convenes representatives of the leading European event agencies.
15 speakers will explore how to transform boring events into transformative experiences this year. The final lineup of speakers is available in the event programme.
The organisers also presented the idea behind this year’s event, connecting three interconnected segments:
We ENGAGE minds through CO-CREATION CO-CREATION stimulates the SENSES SENSES open the heart and ignite EMOTIONS
Creating transformative events
According to the organisers, this is the recipe for success for creating transformative events. Bo Krüger, an exceptional Danish moderator from Moving Minds, will guide the attendees through this metamorphic process. He is known as the father of the Danish way of organising events – “Meeting Design”.
This year’s programme will be marked by speakers who will seek answers and solutions to the main event dilemma. The speakers include world-renowned American neuroscientist Carmen Simon, the Chief Science Officer at Corporate Visions, who will speak about the neuroscience of persuasion in her talk.
Ljubljana will also host Goc O’Callaghan, an Irish expert in crafting memorable experiences, the co-founder of the ArcTanGent festival, and Experience Analyst at Crowd Dynamics. Her presentation will underline why experiences are non-negotiable, from the business and attendee perspectives.
If you ask Google how Gerd de Bruycker is, countless articles related to Cisco will crop up. As the former head of the corporation’s largest global event, and now a renowned consultant, Gerd will face attendees with the following challenge: Can authentic intelligence still tower over AI today?
Conventa Crossover will also share the latest industry trends. On behalf of Europe’s largest network of event agencies, 27Names, Ivo J. Franschitz (ENITED, Austria), Lana Bedeković Rosandić (Alert, Croatia), and Boštjan Prijanovič (New Moment, Slovenia) will present the findings of the 27Names Barometer.
One of the highlights of the programme will be the Pitch Arena, where event organisers will face potential clients and exchange insights and know-how. The agency side will be represented by a dream-team trio: Jens Oliver Mayer (Jack Morton Worldwide), Alexandros Makris (Magna Events), and Thomas Kenyeri (KESCH event agency).
Conventa Crossover would not be the festival of creativity if not for bold new ideas and unveilings. In 2025, Crossover will set the stage for the debut of a European pitching methodology, the Tender Canvas, presented by Bart Kokke from Tender Canvas.

The Mediterranean Cradle
The afternoon part of the programme will take attendees on a journey to the Mediterranean Cradle. They will take inspiration from the ancients and apply it when organising their own events. Two extraordinary Slovenian guests will share their thinking – Gregor Pobežin, PhD, and Nejc Pohar. Mr. Pobežin, a distinguished historian, will prompt attendees to consider what they can still learn from ancient cultures, while Nejc Pohar, the author of the regional bestseller “The Adriatic for Slovenians and Slovenians at the Adriatic”, will delve into the underbelly of mass tourism and events in the Adriatic.
Commenting on this year’s event, Gorazd Čad, the co-founder of Conventa, said: “Jubilant anniversaries are an opportunity to look back at the beginning. I am convinced that countries intent on being global leaders in the events industry must organise their own festival and competition awarding the best events. Without such events, they cannot consider themselves global leaders. As nothing similar had existed in our region and still does not, we decided to create the festival ourselves. Today, as I recall the choppy waters we had to navigate, I am filled with pride, knowing our decision was just. Exceptional speakers who were once reluctant to join our festival now come willingly and attest to the evolution of our festival into a recognised platform. That is why I am excited to welcome the next decade of our festival and look to the future with optimism.”

What will Crossover bring in 2025?
THE HUNT FOR EUROPEAN UNICORNS The CBEA competition will award the leading events in Europe (unicorns). The winners will be selected by a 24-member international jury. The projects will compete in four main categories: B2B, B2C, B2E, and Crossover, and have the chance to seize eight jury awards. The competition is a one-off place for exploring best practice cases across Europe. This year, 54 events from 16 countries will compete for the coveted unicorn awards. The lineup of finalists is available here.
THE SELECTION OF THE BEST SLOVENIAN EVENTS Alongside the winners in the official categories, the best Slovenian event will also be announced. Six exceptional projects will compete for the esteemed award.
THE GRAND AWARD CEREMONY FOR THE BEST EVENTS At Ljubljana Castle, Europe’s best event organisers will claim their hard-earned accolades in four main categories and eight special jury categories. The gala award ceremony is scheduled to take place at Ljubljana Castle on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, at 20:00.
F*!#UPS Mr. Murphy awaits behind every corner when organising events, or so seasoned experts say. That is why the organisers decided to invite accomplished event organisers who learned that the hard way. They will present a few typical examples that can happen to event organisers. Following the presentation, the speakers will have a discussion with the attendees.
CROSSOVER WORKSHOPS For creative minds craving even more practical knowledge, two parallel workshops will be hosted in Centre Rog on Wednesday, 10 September. The first, titled “Train the Moderators: Become an Engaging Host“, will be hosted by Juraj Holub and will cater to aspiring moderators, facilitators, and public speakers looking to up their game. The second workshop, titled “From Spectator to Creator: Design Meetings That Matter”, will be hosted by Bo Krüger.
CROSSOVER = PLANET POSITIVE EVENT The organisers will host the event in accordance with the event’s Green Pledgeand Planet Positive Event‘s principle of sustainable event organising. In addition, the organisers have pledged to accurately measure the carbon footprint of the event and set goals to reduce it based on acquired data. The event’s carbon footprint will be calculated with the help of Planet Positive Event’s carbon calculator, which enables event organisers to calculate their events’ carbon footprint in accordance with the GHG Protocol (Scope 1, 2, and 3) and the ISO 14064 Standard (1-6) for the event’s entire lifecycle.
TWO EXPERT MODERATORS The event will be moderated by two legendary event facilitators: Bo Krüger, an event creator, moderator, facilitator, coach, and international expert in motivation, learning, and gamification. He will be joined by Juraj Holub, an experienced moderator and meeting designer who has stood on countless international stages in the past decade.

55 finalists of the CBEA competition will compete at Ljubljana Castle on 8 September 2025
Between 8 and 9 September 2025, Ljubljana will host the tenth anniversary of Conventa Crossover, the first and only regional competition of professional event organisers and experts in live and experience marketing. The festival will culminate in the grand finale of the Conventa Best Event Award competition, which has been taking place since 2012. Since the first edition, the competition has gained acclaim as one of the oldest and most prestigious European competitions in event organising. An international 24-member expert jury selected the finalists of the competition. The mission of the competition is to promote and highlight excellence, creativity and efficiency in event organising in Europe.
On Monday, 8 September 2025, Conventa Crossover will be the stage for live pitching of the CBEA finalists. The jury will evaluate the best events in person at the Palatium Hall on Ljubljana Castle. A record-breaking 55 events from 16 countries will compete at the competition in the hope of winning the coveted unicorn award. The projects are divided into four main categories: B2B, B2C, B2E and Crossover categories. The competition will also name the best Slovenian event alongside a special jury award.
A record-breaking 55 events from 16 countries will compete at the competition in the hope of winning the coveted unicorn award.
An expert jury selects the finalists and winners based on nine criteria segments. The voting follows a three-stage system according to a unique 80:20 model (the expert jury contributes 80% of the final score while the audience at Conventa Crossover contributes 20% of the score). The organisers outline that the CBEA competition is the only competition of its kind to use such an evaluation system. A decade ago, the one-off model, which combines scores from the jury and the audience, was revealed at the advent of Conventa Crossover. Since then, the model has become a highly effective evaluation method as it raises the transparency and impartiality.
The jury is univocal in praising the quality of projects this year. Record-breaking scores for the projects attest to the calibre of projects (the average mark of projects is 7.14). Each project is evaluated by at least 10 jury members, making the final score credible and internationally comparable.

“We are glad that our vision is becoming a reality: we want to become an esteemed European competition for leading events and experience marketing.”
One of the novelties this year is the corporate jury, comprised of client representatives. The competition will also award 10 special unicorn prizes, including the Rising Star Award for the most promising young event agency and the Best Strategic Communication Event Award.
Gorazd Čad, the founder of the project, said: “We are glad that our vision is becoming a reality: we want to become an esteemed European competition for leading events and experience marketing. We are further impressed by the quality of projects this year. We are eager to meet the best event organisers this year, gain new knowledge and inspiration for our future projects. The presentation of finalists on 8 September 2025 is a trove of knowledge that cannot be found anywhere else.”

The festival of events is organised by Toleranca marketing, an event and consultancy agency and Conventa, a market-leading B2B trade show, in partnership with Ljubljana Tourism, the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Slovenian Convention Bureau.
The audience award went to the youthful event Jagermeister x LOKOMOTIVA, Master, the LOK 3.0 crafted by the Croatian event and marketing agency Alert, Croatia.
The event was attended by approximately 350 people in total, which included business partners, key media representatives and 30 top-tier influencers and Jägermeister brand ambassadors. The event was held in a hot urban spot, giving the agency an opportunity to transfer the “BERLIN IN THE BOTTLE” vibe of the brand and create the atmosphere of the best clubs in Berlin. The event was the main topic in Zagreb for days after.
The main challenge of the event was how to develop the fashion piece / the jacket / which all event was built around, which would really change the temperature to the perfect serve temperature. After this was resolved, they were facing the challenge of finding the right location which they could transform within the budget into an ice cube.
In the Crosover category, awarding the most unique events that cross boundaries and categories, Creative Pro Group won first place with its cyber-security inspired ESET Experience.
STARMUS, a global festival celebrating science, communication, and art, brings together the brightest minds on the planet. This year, STARMUS took place in Bratislava, Slovakia, with ESET as a proud partner. ESET as a partner felt this as a unique opportunity to connect it with ESET WORLD’s own festival on the topic of cyber security.
The ESET EXPERIENCE was designed to immerse attendees in ESET’s world and demonstrate how the company protects the future. The objectives were to increase brand awareness of ESET globally, promote brand perception of ESET as a supporter of science, and grow business value with potential customers.
The ESET Experience guided the audience through the values and history of ESET and the origins of the first viruses, showcased current hacker attacks, and presented the company‘s future vision. The tailor-made sphere not only served as a tool for content projection, but also acted as “protective shield,” which is a direct reference to cybersecurity. With the creative concept, advanced technologies, and rich content, Creative Pro aimed to visually bring 30 years of ESET closer. This event was exceptional from both creative and production perspectives.
In 2024, the B2E Award went into the hands of Desafio Global, a Portuguese event agency that transformed a 10,000 m2 event pavilion into a giant train station. The design was based on the world’s most beautiful stations and named the Deloitte Grand Station: a place where everyone could connect and socialise.
This unique experience with 4,500 people took all the guests on an amazing journey, full of surprises and technology, where they could experience every place in the world without leaving the same space.
The project was very challenging from the point of view of the event management team and the project manager, since in addition to the planning needed to carry out the project within the space in 2 days, the project required a lot of creativity and imagination. Constructing the graphic and set design elements from scratch also meant that carrying out the project was very satisfying.
The agency was selected based on the storytelling created to give shape to messages that Deloitte wanted to convey, as well as the scenography. The agency’s proposal brought employees continuous, high-quality entertainment and brand engagement for 8 consecutive hours. The agency’s proposal would enable 5,000 people to go on a journey, as part of an amazing experience. Experience and trust were also decisive factors, since, given the high occupancy rate for the space, they only had 2 days to set up the whole event.
The B2C Award went to the German agency Jack Morton for their roadshow dubbedLet Hyundai Power Your World Tour 2023. A simple, sustainable mirror cube with a powerful AI experience at its core invited audiences to reflect on their future in six cities across Germany. The Hyundai Power Your World Tour became a new experiential communication platform for Hyundai, bringing the future to the people.
From the beginning, efficiency and sustainability were at the core of the concept. From the modular design made of reused parts, to the smart logistics reducing transportation, and the multiple choices made to minimise impact, such as local vegan catering, the program was designed to align with strong principles of sustainability and diversity. These challenges were overcome by creating a unique yet modular design and using measurement tools to simulate impact, enabling better decisions.
“Let Hyundai Power Your World Tour” was a journey to the intersection of hyper-local cultures, food, architecture, and the transformation of mobility. The reflective cube changed throughout the day, always mirroring its surroundings, while the interior design and AI activation provided a space for introspection and a new perspective on the world.
– Generative AI was used extensively to create a core interactive experience for attendees to discover the future. The custom AI model was trained and ran locally to mitigate any risk, ensuring it provided only Hyundai-approved vehicles, views, and imagery.
– Sustainability Measurement and Simulation: A tool was used to simulate impact and assist in decision-making, from logistics to catering. This allows us to not only reduce impact but also set targets in advance.
– Visitors also danced with Atlas, a robot that accurately mirrored their moves on screen, or explored in-depth elements of Hyundai’s innovative and sustainable design.
– As a special guest, the audience was able to meet “Spot”– a four-legged robot that demonstrated its agility, dance moves, and posing skills.
“Let Hyundai Power Your World Tour” is becoming a growing experiential platform for the brand to build awareness and create meaningful connections with their audience, as we are already planning the next edition.
Last year’s Grand Prix was awarded to Zlatý Klinec – an extraordinary event created and curated by the Slovakian agency Leopard Production. The outlandish idea to gather five kilometres of old cables from Slovakia also landed them the top prize in the B2B category and the Best in Creativity Award.
Zlatý Klinec, or translated- The Golden Nail, is the most important competition for the most creative advertising in Slovakia, which has been organised annually since 1994. The only brief this year was the theme: Age of AI. The client gave the Slovakian agency complete freedom in the creative process, thus gave us with their trust.
AI was used in every part, in every technical input: consultant in the creation of the creative, music dramaturgy, lyrics and script, creation of visuality and visuals, moderation and pre-event buzz.
The organisers gathered around 5 kilometres of old cables from all around Slovakia, which represented the AI and data flowing all around us. They recycled them and even after the event itself, these cables are used as a part of an art exhibition in the Slovak National Gallery.
During the time of the creation process, AI was still a foreign tool, which everyone was afraid of and could not properly work with. The agency decided to use it in every part of the creation process, and so the long hours of editing, writing prompts and dividing the answers began. They managed to symbiotically create an event, which rewrote the whole negative idea about AI and the creative industry.
